Oh What A Knight

While Stocks Last

1st Romiley Beaver Scouts helped out at the Romiley Primary Summer Fair, which had a Medieval Theme this year. Sir Matt of Edgeley ran the stocks and encouraged all the Teachers to have a wash by the students of the school. Oh Boy, there was no shortage of volunteers, especially when Jeremy volunteered to have a shower! Sponges were available while ‘Stocks Last’ until the weather turned a bit cold and the event turned into a ‘Wash Out’ Ahahahaha…

April 2013

Bear’s Picnic

1st Romiley Scouts, Cubs and Beavers all ventured to Manchester to support the StreetLife event in aid of the RealTrack charity that does a lot of work to help combat poverty in less well off countries.

Some Explorer scouts build makeshift shanty settlements that they braved the elements in while staying overnight in Cathedral Gardens.

Our Chief Scout Bear Grylls supported the event with an appearance, Scout James got a book signed by the big cheese himself, and Jack got to shake his hand. He’ll never wash it again, and you can get a photo of Jack’s unwashed hand if you like…..

Bear then flew off to attend a Scout Camp in Bolton where more of Manchester’s Scouts were holding a district camp.

Colin McIntyre MBE

In October Colin McIntyre, a former Group Scout Leader with 1st Romiley Scout Group, was invested as a member of the Order of the British Empire by the Queen at Buckingham Palace – for services to the Scouts in Hertfordshire

Colin joined the Group as a Cub in 1947 and after moving through Scouts and, what was in those days, Senior Scouts gained his Queen’s Scout badge just in time to attend the Jubilee Jamboree in 1957. He was appointed to a number of Leader roles, ultimately becoming GSL in 1967. After getting married in 1969 moved to Sale where he continued as a Leader with 1st Brooklands.

Following a move in 1977 to Ware in Hertfordshire he was appointed an Assistant District Commissioner and later elected to the County Executive committee. In 2004 the Chief Scout awarded him the Silver Wolf for services to Scouting of the most exceptional nature.

This recent award for services to Scouts is in particular recognition of his record breaking term of 26 years as the Hertfordshire County Secretary.
